The full day tour includes sightseeing in Bitola, and a visit to the famous archaeological site Heraclea Lyncestis. Bitola was an important administrative center during the Ottoman Era. Sights in Bitola include the Shirok Sokak, the Clock Tower, St. Demetrious Church, and Bezisten. There will be an opportunity to also visit the rich heritage from the Ottoman period. After the break, the tour precedes to Heraclea Lyncestis the remains of the ancient city, which was established as a significant strategic centre by King Philip II of Macedon, in the 4th century BC. Only 2 km south from present-day Bitola’s city center, Heraclea Lyncestis was a stop on the Via Egnatia, one of the most significant Roman roads. Many buildings have been excavated, including the ancient courthouse, fascinating churches from earliest Christian period with unique mosaics, as well as a first-class ancient theater made from marble, which is still used for summer concerts even today.
